The first-generation Mitsubishi L200 pickup (introduced in Japan as the Forte and sold in North America as the Dodge Ram 50) launched in 1978. Engineered on a heavy-duty ladder frame with rear leaf-spring suspension, it offered payload capacities up to one ton in Single Cab configurations. Engineering of the L200 I (L020) (factory code L020) emphasized high structural rigidity, aerodynamic efficiency, and optimized interior spatial packaging. Built with reinforced body structures utilizing high-tensile steel alloys, the platform delivered reduced curb weight alongside improved occupant crash protection.
