3About this generation
The second-generation MG 6 adopted an aggressive fastback styling, efficient turbo engines, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Revealed in late 2017, the second generation of the MG 6 embraced a modern, dynamic fastback silhouette designed to captivate younger buyers worldwide under SAIC Motor. Built on the advanced modular SSA platform shared with sister brand Roewe, this generation was sold exclusively as a sleek five-door liftback, shedding the separate sedan variant of the first generation. The primary powertrain was a 1.5-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine from the SGE family developed jointly with GM, generating 169 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Buyers could choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In 2018, MG expanded the portfolio with the eco-friendly eMG 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, matching an efficient three-cylinder combustion unit with an electric traction motor and an automated dual-mode transmission for impressive fuel economy. The cabin received upscale soft-touch materials, an advanced digital gauge cluster, and the Alibaba-developed connected infotainment interface. The vehicle served as a sales backbone for MG in mainland China, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and selected South American countries.
