8About this generation
The first-generation MG 6 was a mid-size liftback and sedan developed in the UK and produced in China and Longbridge.
The first generation of the modern MG 6 debuted in late 2009 under the ownership of SAIC Motor, marking the true rebirth of the brand in the compact executive family car segment. Developed primarily at the Longbridge design and technical centre in Birmingham, the car shared its front-wheel-drive platform and running gear with the Roewe 550, which itself evolved from the Rover 75 architecture. The vehicle was introduced initially as a sleek five-door fastback liftback, followed shortly by a formal four-door notchback sedan badged as the Magnette. Under the bonnet sat a revised 1.8-litre K-Series four-cylinder petrol engine, offered in naturally aspirated guise producing 133 horsepower or with an intercooled turbocharger producing 160 horsepower. Transmission options comprised a standard five-speed manual and a five-speed automatic sourced from Aisin. In 2012, a dedicated 1.9-litre DTi-TECH turbodiesel unit delivering 150 horsepower was added to appeal directly to the European company car market. In 2014, the MG 6 underwent a comprehensive mid-cycle refresh that brought revised LED front lighting, updated bumpers, an electronic parking brake, and a notable reduction in vehicle weight to improve driving dynamics. The model was retailed in the UK, China, and various export regions.
