Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren I (C199) gallery (2003–2010)

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (C199 coupe, R199 roadster, Z199 Stirling Moss) was jointly developed by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive and assembled at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, UK, between 2003 and 2010. Paying homage to the 1955 300 SLR racer, the car featured a full carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) monocoque, butterfly doors, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an active rear airbrake.

Power came from a front-mid-mounted 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine (M155) hand-built by AMG, producing 626 hp and 780 Nm of torque paired with a 5-speed AMG Speedshift automatic. In 2006, Mercedes launched the upgraded SLR 722 Edition (650 hp), commemorating Stirling Moss's 1955 Mille Miglia victory. A roadster version joined in 2007, followed in 2009 by the limited-run SLR Stirling Moss, a roofless and windshield-less speedster limited to 75 units. Total production reached 2,157 cars.
