The seventh-generation SL R232 was developed by Mercedes-AMG, featuring a soft top, 2+2 seating layout, and all-wheel drive.
The seventh-generation Mercedes-Benz SL (R232) was unveiled in October 2021. For the first time, development of the model was managed entirely by the Mercedes-AMG performance division. The R232 reverted to a classic multi-layer fabric soft top (saving 21 kg) and a 2+2 interior layout. It sits on a dedicated composite aluminum spaceframe structure that shares no chassis components with the outgoing R231 or the previous AMG GT.
For the first time on an SL, fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and rear-axle steering are equipped as standard across the range. Engine options span from an entry-level 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger in the SL 43 (381 hp) to 4.0-liter biturbo V8s in the SL 55 and SL 63, topped by the SL 63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid producing 816 hp. Chassis tech includes AMG Active Ride Control with active hydraulic anti-roll stabilization.
