The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe (factory code X290) debuted at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Despite sharing styling cues and branding with the two-door AMG GT sports car, the X290 is structurally based on an AMG-tuned variant of the executive MRA platform shared with the E-Class W213 and CLS C257. The model combines high-performance track capability with a spacious four- or five-seat cabin and a practical rear liftback hatch.

Powertrains range from 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six mild hybrids with 48V EQ Boost (GT 43 at 367 hp, GT 53 at 435 hp) to twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engines in the GT 63 (585 hp) and GT 63 S (639 hp). In 2021, Mercedes launched the flagship GT 63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid generating a combined 843 hp and 1400 Nm of torque. All models are equipped with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and 9-speed AMG Speedshift transmissions.
