Lincoln Aviator I (UN152) gallery (2002–2005)

The first-generation Lincoln Aviator debuted for the 2003 model year as a mid-size luxury SUV built on Ford's body-on-frame U1 platform (UN152), sharing its foundation with the third-generation Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer. Styled heavily after the flagship Lincoln Navigator, the Aviator featured a distinctive chrome waterfall grille, upscale interior appointments, genuine American walnut trim, and premium leather upholstery. It was powered exclusively by a 4.6-liter Modular 32-valve DOHC V8 engine producing 302 horsepower, paired with a five-speed 5R55S automatic transmission. The SUV came in both rear-wheel-drive and full-time all-wheel-drive configurations, featuring a four-wheel independent suspension for improved ride comfort. Primary sales were concentrated in North America. Although praised for its potent powertrain and refined cabin, high pricing and close mechanical resemblance to mainstream Ford counterparts led to sluggish sales, resulting in its discontinuation after 2005.
