Lancia Delta II (Tipo 836) gallery (1993–1999)

Introduced at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show, the second-generation Lancia Delta (Tipo 836), or Nuova Delta, shifted away from the motorsport aggression of its predecessor toward refined touring comfort and active safety. Designed by Ercole Spada at the I.DE.A Institute, the vehicle was built on the Fiat Type Two platform shared with the Fiat Tipo, Alfa Romeo 145, and Lancia Dedra. Offered initially as a five-door hatchback and joined in 1995 by a three-door HPE sports coupe version, the Delta II offered enhanced structural rigidity and sophisticated interior trimmings. The powertrain lineup featured 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engines, a 1.9-liter turbo-diesel, and a range-topping 2.0-liter 16V Turbo developing 193 horsepower with a Viscodrive limited-slip differential. All variants utilized front-wheel drive mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. A mid-cycle refresh in 1996 introduced modernized Pratola Serra multi-valve engines, subtle exterior body-colored detailing, and upgraded interior ergonomics before production concluded in 1999.
