Isuzu Trooper I gallery (1981–1991)

The first generation of the Isuzu Trooper frame-based SUV made its debut in 1981 in three-door and five-door configurations.

The first generation Isuzu Trooper was built on a ladder-frame platform featuring part-time four-wheel drive and dependent leaf or coil spring suspension. The vehicle was offered in three-door and five-door SUV body styles, as well as a rare soft-top version. The engine lineup included carburetor and fuel-injected gasoline engines ranging from 2.0 to 2.6 liters, a powerful 2.8-liter V6, and economical naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesels of 2.2 and 2.8 liters. Transmission options consisted of a 4-speed or 5-speed manual gearbox or a 3-speed automatic. Over the years of production, the model underwent several updates affecting the grille design, interior layout, and technical contents, helping it gain popularity in North American, Japanese, and European markets.
