Isuzu N-Series I gallery (1959–1984)

The first generation of Isuzu N-Series light commercial vehicles was introduced in December 1959, laying the foundation for the brand's legendary lineup of utility trucks. The vehicle was engineered to meet the growing demands of post-war Japan for reliable, highly maneuverable urban transport. It featured a low-cab-forward design that maximized cargo space while offering excellent forward visibility and a tight turning radius. Initially powered by gasoline engines, the truck line soon adopted efficient diesel powerplants, which eventually became the defining characteristic of the N-Series worldwide. Power was routed through a manual transmission to the rear wheels. The robust ladder-frame chassis accommodated a wide variety of body configurations, including flatbeds, enclosed box vans, and specialized utility setups. The model quickly achieved domestic success in Japan and initiated Isuzu's expansion into global export markets, establishing a reputation for durability.
