The first-generation Hyundai i30 (chassis FD) debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2007. Developed alongside the Kia Cee'd at Hyundai's European Technical Centre in Germany, the i30 was specifically tailored to challenge established European hatchbacks. In 2008, the line expanded with the introduction of the i30 CW estate variant, offering enhanced cargo versatility and extended overall length.

Powertrain choices included 1.4-liter, 1.6-liter, and 2.0-liter CVVT four-cylinder gasoline engines, as well as highly efficient 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter CRDi turbodiesels. Suspension was fully independent with front MacPherson struts and a multi-link rear setup. A mid-life update in 2010 brought subtle cosmetic styling changes to the front grille and fog light housings.
