Holden Vectra I (JR) photos

Introduced in mid-1997, the Holden Vectra (JR series) served as the initial adaptation of the European Opel Vectra B for the Australasian marketplace, effectively replacing the Toyota-based Holden Apollo. Built upon the front-wheel-drive GM2900 platform, the JR series debuted in four-door sedan and five-door liftback/hatchback configurations. Propulsion choices included a 2.0-liter Ecotec DOHC four-cylinder engine producing 100 kW (136 hp) and a 2.5-liter 54-degree V6 delivering 125 kW (170 hp) on upscale CDX variants. Both engines could be paired with a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic. The Vectra brought contemporary European driving dynamics, fully independent suspension, distinctive aerodynamic side-mirror housings blended into hood creases, and comprehensive active and passive safety. The JR series was initially imported directly from Europe before Holden finalized factory tooling at its Elizabeth assembly plant in South Australia for local production.
