Holden One Tonner I (HQ/HJ/HX/HZ/WB) gallery (1971–1985)

The classic first generation of the heavy-duty cab-chassis One Tonner, built on the Holden HQ through WB full-size passenger car platform.

The first-generation Holden One Tonner was introduced in 1971 as part of the HQ passenger car lineup and remained in production until 1985 across successive HJ, HX, HZ, and WB series updates. Developed specifically as a rugged cab-chassis commercial vehicle capable of hauling a full one-tonne payload, it paired the front cabin structure and styling of Holden full-size passenger models with a heavy-duty rear ladder chassis and a robust live axle suspended on multi-leaf springs. Power was supplied by Holden Red and later Blue inline-six engines displace 2.85 liters (173 ci) and 3.3 liters (202 ci), as well as Australian-designed 4.2-liter (253 ci) and 5.0-liter (308 ci) V8 units. Drivetrains included 3-speed and 4-speed manual transmissions alongside 3-speed Tri-Matic and heavy-duty Turbo-Hydramatic automatic gearboxes. The platform received minor cosmetic facelifts and suspension revisions, culminating in the Radial Tuned Suspension (RTS) introduction on the HZ series. The One Tonner was sold primarily in Australia and New Zealand as an indispensable commercial workhorse.
