Holden Cruze I (YG) gallery (2002–2006)
A subcompact crossover hatchback co-developed by GM and Suzuki based on the extended Suzuki Ignis platform.
The first-generation Holden Cruze (YG series) was introduced to Australia and New Zealand in 2002 as a subcompact crossover hatchback. Developed jointly by General Motors and Suzuki, the YG Cruze was manufactured in Japan and shared its core structural underpinnings and body design with the global Chevrolet Cruze and Suzuki Ignis. It was available exclusively as a five-door high-riding hatchback powered by a 1.5-litre DOHC 16-valve naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 74 kW and 138 Nm of torque. Transmission offerings comprised a 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed automatic. A defining feature of the YG series was its standard viscous-coupling on-demand all-wheel-drive system paired with generous ground clearance, positioning it as a distinct crossover alternative to conventional B-segment hatchbacks. The interior featured elevated seating and functional folding rear seats. The YG series remained on sale until 2006, when it was discontinued without an immediate direct replacement.
