The first-generation Great Wall Hover H5 debuted in 2010 as a capable mid-size mid-budget body-on-frame SUV, remaining in production until 2020. Built upon a rugged ladder-frame platform, the vehicle features an independent torsion-bar front suspension and a live rear axle with coil springs for improved ride quality. Powertrain choices included a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 136 horsepower, a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol unit rated at 177 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine delivering 150 horsepower. Transmission options comprised five-speed and six-speed manual gearboxes alongside a five-speed automatic transmission. The selectable part-time four-wheel-drive system incorporates a low-range transfer case and optional rear mechanical differential lock for enhanced off-road performance. Stylistically, the SUV presented a bolder front fascia compared to its predecessor, featuring a large chrome grille and reshaped headlights. Interior amenities offered leather upholstery, automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system, a rearview camera, power-adjustable driver seating, and electric windows.
