The second-generation GMC Canyon arrived for the 2015 model year on the GMT31XX architecture after a brief hiatus following the discontinuation of the first generation. Sized significantly larger than its predecessor, the second-gen Canyon targeted buyers seeking truck capability with premium car-like refinement and sophisticated styling cues distinct from the mechanically identical Chevrolet Colorado. Cab styles were streamlined to Extended Cab and Crew Cab configurations with two available bed lengths. The powertrain selection initially included a 2.5-liter Ecotec inline-four (200 hp) and a 3.6-liter LFX V6 (305 hp), paired with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. In 2016, GM introduced an efficient 2.8-liter Duramax LWN inline-four turbo-diesel producing 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The 2017 model year brought an updated 3.6-liter LGZ V6 paired with a modern eight-speed automatic transmission, alongside the introduction of the ultra-luxurious Denali trim. A substantial cosmetic and trim refresh for the 2021 model year introduced the off-road-focused AT4 variant. The truck was manufactured in Wentzville, Missouri, and sold primarily in North America and select Middle Eastern countries.
