Geely Emgrand GL I (FE-5) gallery (2016–2021)
The first generation Geely Emgrand GL is a compact sedan built on the FE platform, featuring a fastback silhouette, spacious interior, turbocharged engines, and a plug-in hybrid option.
The Geely Emgrand GL compact sedan was produced from 2016 to 2021 as the sedan sibling to the Emgrand GS crossover. The GL designation stood for Grand and Luxury, reflecting the vehicle's expanded dimensions and upscale market positioning within the Emgrand product line. Built on the Geely FE platform, the sedan measured 4,725 mm in length with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, offering exceptional rear legroom for its class. Its exterior featured a sleek fastback roofline, Geely's signature ripple intake grille, and crisp character lines designed by Peter Horbury's styling team. Propulsion options over the model's production run included a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine, 1.3-liter and 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder units, and a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbo three-cylinder rated at 177 horsepower. In 2019, Geely added the Emgrand GL PHEV plug-in hybrid, combining the 1.5T engine with an electric motor and an 11.3 kWh lithium battery to achieve an electric-only range of up to 66 kilometers. Transmissions consisted of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearboxes sending power exclusively to the front wheels. The quiet, ergonomic cabin boasted an 8-inch GKUI infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control with CN95 air filtration, leather upholstery, and Level 2 driver assistance technology. In late 2021, the model underwent a major redesign and was renamed the Emgrand L.
