The second-generation Ford Maverick served as Ford's SUV nameplate across European and Australian markets between 1993 and 2007. From 1993 to 1998, the model was a body-on-frame four-wheel-drive SUV developed jointly with Nissan, based directly on the Nissan Terrano II (R20) and built at Nissan's Barcelona plant in Spain. Available in three-door and five-door bodies, it featured transfer-case part-time 4WD with low-range gears.

In 2001, the Maverick badge in Europe was re-applied to a unibody crossover SUV that was a direct rebadge of the first-generation North American Ford Escape. Engine options included 2.0L Zetec, 2.3L Duratec, and 3.0L Duratec V6 gasoline units alongside earlier 2.7L turbodiesels. Sales concluded in 2007 when it was replaced by the Ford Kuga.
