Debuting for 2020, the fourth-generation Escape used Ford's lightweight modular C2 architecture. The exterior adopted a lower, wider stance with car-like surfacing influenced by Ford's passenger vehicle design. Inside, sliding second-row seats provided best-in-class rear legroom, complemented by a rotary gear shifter and digital instrumentation.

Drivetrains featured 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter EcoBoost engines along with the return of Hybrid (HEV) and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. A major 2023 styling refresh added a bolder front fascia, wide LED light bar, and a 13.2-inch SYNC 4 touchscreen interface.
