The subcompact Daewoo Kalos with the T200 index was launched in production in 2002.
The first-generation Daewoo Kalos (factory code T200) debuted in 2002 to replace the Lanos model. Development of the car began before the company's financial troubles under the guidance of Italdesign, and its premiere marked the first new release after Daewoo joined General Motors. The vehicle was produced in sedan and 3- or 5-door hatchback body styles, featuring a spacious interior for its class and a high roofline. The engine lineup included efficient petrol engines ranging from 1.2, 1.4, to 1.5 liters, mated to manual or automatic transmissions. The model was sold worldwide under various GM brands, including Chevrolet Aveo, Pontiac Wave, and Holden Barina, while retaining the Daewoo Kalos name in South Korea and several European countries until its facelift.
