The Nova marked a major step for the company as it shifted to a transverse engine layout, a modern solution at the time. Development was carried out in-house by Dacia. The car featured a hatchback body and a unique interior design. Despite the progressive concept, the build quality and materials were subpar, which limited its popularity.
