BYD Tang I gallery (2015–2018)

Produced between 2015 and 2018, the initial generation of the BYD Tang mid-size crossover SUV marked BYD breakthrough into high-performance hybrid vehicles. Built upon an evolved chassis shared with the BYD S6 and S7 models, it featured a five-door SUV body layout with elevated ground clearance. The powertrain utilized a plug-in hybrid architecture combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 205 hp with two 110 kW electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. This dual-motor layout created an electric all-wheel drive system generating a total system output of 505 hp, enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.9 seconds. Power was routed through a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Electrical energy was supplied by an 18.4 kWh LFP battery pack, offering an electric-only range of up to 80 kilometers under early testing standards. Inside, the car was equipped with leather seating, a digital instrument cluster, a central touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, and advanced driver safety features. The original Tang was sold primarily in China, setting the stage for BYD flagship Dynasty series SUVs.
