Buick Encore II (GEM) gallery (2019–present)
The second-generation Buick Encore is engineered on GM's GEM platform specifically tailored for the Chinese market.
The second-generation Buick Encore debuted at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show, developed by SAIC-GM on General Motors' dedicated Global Emerging Markets (GEM) modular platform. Designed specifically to meet the demands of urban Chinese consumers, it features sculpted crossover proportions, an upscale modern interior, and integrated eConnect connectivity. The powertrain roster consists of GM's eighth-generation Ecotec turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engines: a 1.0-liter turbo delivering 125 horsepower mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and a 1.3-liter turbo outputting 165 horsepower paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Unlike its predecessor, this generation focuses exclusively on a front-wheel-drive setup and is produced in China, while global markets received the separate, slightly larger Encore GX built on the VSS-F platform.
