Unveiled in 2011, the third-generation 6 Series translated BMW’s design language into a wider, lower, and more athletic posture created by Nader Faghihzadeh. The lineup expanded beyond the traditional convertible (F12) and coupe (F13) to include the brand’s first four-door coupe, the Gran Coupe (F06). Featuring frameless side windows, a stretched wheelbase, and a sweeping roofline, the Gran Coupe combined four-door practicality with the romantic silhouette of a grand tourer. The cabin offered premium materials and state-of-the-art digital displays.

Mechanically, this generation fully embraced turbocharging with BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology. Powertrains ranged from smooth 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six gasoline and diesel units to a potent 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, all paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Drivers benefited from optional xDrive all-wheel drive, Adaptive Drive chassis controls, and full-LED headlights. The F06/F12/F13 series ceased production in 2018, paving the way for the upper-tier 8 Series moniker.
