The Acura RLX (KC1/KC2) flagship executive sedan was produced from 2013 to 2020 as the successor to the Acura RL.
Launching in 2013 as a 2014 model year vehicle, the Acura RLX (KC1/KC2 chassis) assumed flagship status in Acura's sedan lineup, replacing the RL. Standard front-wheel drive models (KC1) introduced Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS), utilizing independent electric actuators to adjust rear-wheel toe angles. The sedan also introduced Acura's signature multi-lens Jewel Eye LED headlamps. Engineering priorities for this generation focused on structural rigidity, chassis refinement, and elevating active safety capabilities.
The base powertrain combined a 3.5-liter J35Y4 V6 producing 310 horsepower with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The innovative RLX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (KC2) arrived for 2014, pairing the V6 with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and three electric motors—including a Twin Motor Unit at the rear axle—for a combined 377 horsepower. A 2018 refresh restyled the bodywork with the Diamond Pentagon grille and updated front and rear fascias. A comprehensive list of standard features combined with proven powertrain durability helped secure a strong market presence in its segment.
