Toyota to lead U.S. auto market in 2021
Toyota managed to sell 2.3 million cars in the U.S. last year, 10% more than 2020.
It is worth adding that this is the first time in the past 90 years that the number one spot in the U.S. market went to someone other than General Motors.
In turn, General Motors sold 2.2 million cars in the U.S. for all of 2021, which is less than 13% of the 2020 result. The American company attributes the decline in sales to the lack of microchips and electric components. GM also said it could improve its position in the full-size pickup and SUV segment.
Also, sales increased for 2021 in the U.S., and other foreign brands, such as Hyundai, Mazda, Volkswagen, and BMW.
