Cabriolet GT 86 from Toyota Still Possible
Once popular speculations of expanding Scion FR-S line-up are topical again.
A certain Japanese source has spoken and revealed that the company is mulling over the creation of cabriolet and saloon versions of GT 86 once again. Apart from that, turbo and hybrid offerings are also not ruled out. Furthermore, the cabriolet is said to appear in dealerships by the end of 2014 whereas it will take the saloon variant 18 months more to be released. FR-S is promised to be extended by turbo, mixed turbo-hybrid and four-wheel drive modifications.
Saloon is expected to be equipped with two mills to choose from, which can be explained by its increased size and weight. Namely, DIT engine used by Subaru is more than possible. Toyota will separate the domestic market by supplying it with propulsion of less volume. Turbo engine is expected to develop decent 300 hp. The latter variant is also allegedly under consideration by the brand for coupe modification to draw more attention to the existing model.
Concerning the hybrid offering, the automaker might refer to wheel motors for the front wheels, which is aimed to create a four-wheel drive effect. The closest engine counterpart to be used resembles the one presented by Subaru with its DI boxer item.
