Hybrid Plans of Mercedes-Benz
Considerably more plug-in hybrid models are going to be added to Mercedes-Benz line-up.
The company has revealed its plans for the next ten years, according to which pure EVs do not interest it much. Plug-in variants are now officially the chosen aim of the brand and new rear-wheel configuration is meant to be integrated into production. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz realizes the presence of a strong competitor – Tesla B-Class Electric Drive – but still wants to provide the clients with a choice.
Development boss of the carmaker states that the conversion to plug-in models will be only logical considering the current state and development of the market. In early autumn the first S-Class PHEV will appear; the same modification is planned to be added to C-Class line-up. He emphasizes that it is rear-wheel architecture that allows turn a lot of models into this type of EVs.
Struggle for the customer will also be present at the domestic market as BMW seems to be rather serious with its i-models. It does not scare Mercedes-Benz which is adamant regarding plug-in cars, and apart from that fuel-cell charge is also mulled as an option.
