Jeep Reintroduces Cherokee for the 2026 Lineup
After ending production in 2023 following a decade-long presence in the US market, Jeep is making a comeback with the Cherokee. The upcoming 2026 edition promises a fresh take on the brand’s renowned mid-size off-road vehicle, as showcased in the initial reveal images.
The 2026 Cherokee features Jeep’s newest design elements, initially introduced with the Wagoneer S and later incorporated into the latest Compass unveiled in May. The front showcases the signature seven-slot grille, complemented by a robust and familiar silhouette. While the rear view remains unseen in the early photos, it is anticipated to mirror the Compass's design.
Built on Stellantis's STLA Large platform, the new Cherokee is expected to offer a diverse range of powertrain options. Jeep has confirmed the inclusion of a hybrid variant, and it is highly probable that traditional gasoline and fully electric versions will also be available. This platform is shared with the forthcoming Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
There's potential for the Cherokee to feature a variant of the advanced twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter ‘Hurricane’ inline-six engine, capable of producing up to 510 horsepower. However, such high performance is unlikely to be standard for the mid-size SUV.
An electric version of the Cherokee might adopt a configuration similar to the current Wagoneer S, which utilizes a 100.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack paired with two electric motors, delivering 600 hp and 617 lb-ft of torque. Nonetheless, expectations should be moderated, as the electric Cherokee may not reach the power levels of its larger counterpart.
Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf stated, "The all-new Jeep Cherokee represents our commitment to expanding our offerings with more products, innovations, choices, and standard features than ever before. Positioned between the Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Cherokee will feature competitive pricing aimed at the largest vehicle segment, enhancing our successful mainstream lineup."
The refreshed Jeep Cherokee is expected to make its official debut later this year, with sales commencing in 2026. Unlike the latest Compass model, the new Cherokee is anticipated to be available in the United States market.
