Fuel Vapor Leak Caused A Recall For BMW i3
BMW is making a recall for 19,130 i3s with range extenders.
The cars under consideration feature a fuel tank vent line routed close to the ribbed wire protecting the battery-plus cable sleeve. The automaker says that the line may rub against the ribbed wire and can wear through. This can possibly create a fuel vapor leak within the enclosed motor compartment. In the result a fire can occur with the higher risk.
The company has not been informed of any deaths or injuries connected with the problem. The issue was found out when a non-U.S. Dealer noticed a chafed line in a car. BMW monitored filed cars then and saw other instances of chafing.
People who own affected cars can visit the company’s dealerships from April 3. Their fuel vent lines will be carefully inspected and replaced. The future wear can be prevented by installing a clip between the battery cable sleeve and the fuel tank vent. Obviously, all the fixes will be done for free.
