CES saw the i8 Mirrorless Concept from BMW
The CES (or Consumer Electronics Show) goes on as BMW presented its i8 Mirrorless and i3 Extended Rearview Mirror concepts.
The offering’s side mirrors were changed into to rear-view cameras in the i8 Mirrorless. The cameras are placed on aerodynamically optimized holders. There also is a third rear-view camera on the concept. It is mounted on the upper edge of the rear windscreen.
The photos from the cameras will be combined into one. It will be displayed on a high-resolution screen that was placed after the regular rear-view mirror. The automaker assures that the resulting photo gives a better viewing angle than regular mirrors.
A digital rear-view mirror enables displaying of warning messages when needed. The mirror can warn the owner about the vehicle’s approaching in the intended lane while changing lanes.
The i3 Extended Rearview Mirror concept was also unwrapped. The producer did not say much about it, but revealed that it has got a camera placed on the top of the car. Photos are overlaid on the interior mirror in order to obtain a greater extend of the driver’s field of vision.
