BMW i3 Going to Spawn Bigger "i5" Sedan Version
It is rumored that BMW could stretch its i3 vehicle to construct a fresh family model, likely to be named the i5.
If it’s going to happen, of course. Given that the BMW “I” sub-brand is still to be considered, it’s a safe bet that the German company is waiting to see if its original investment pays off before spinning off new vehicles. Sure it would make sense for BMW to construct an i5 and follow the footsteps of its standard 3 and 5 Series vehicles, especially since BMW already branded the i1 to i8 nameplates.
The reason is that the i3 does use a separate chassis, lengthening in order to construct a bigger vehicle would be relatively cheap for BMW. All said and done though, expect the i5 to stay a rumor until at least the middle of 2015. By that time, BMW will have a brighter picture on whether or not an i5 is even needed in the marketplace.
