BMW Surprised by Robust Demand for M5 Touring
The BMW M5 Touring has officially launched in the United States, marking its first entry into the American market. Early sales figures are promising, with production levels for both the sedan and wagon models maintaining a balanced 50:50 ratio, exceeding BMW’s original projections.
Sylvia Neubauer, BMW’s Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales, shared with BMW Blog that the company had initially intended to produce two-thirds sedans and one-third wagons. However, the actual demand has deviated from these plans, leading to an unexpected equilibrium in production.
Neubauer commented, "We are witnessing a higher than anticipated demand for the sedan model, which has prompted us to increase its production. More notably, the Touring variant has seen an even greater surge in interest, necessitating a significant boost in its manufacturing numbers."
Impressive Performance of the M5 Touring
The 2025 BMW M5 Touring, unveiled last August, features the same hybrid V-8 powertrain as its sedan counterpart, delivering 717 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. Despite its hefty weight of 5,530 pounds, the Touring variant accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Additionally, its hybrid system allows for approximately 25 miles of pure electric driving.
Looking Ahead: Potential for the M3 Touring
While the successful introduction of the M5 Touring in the US does not immediately signal the release of the M3 Touring, BMW remains hopeful. Andreas Meyer, Vice President of Product, mentioned last August, "If the M5 Touring performs exceptionally well, there is a possibility that the next generation of the M3 Touring could make its way to the American market."
Although BMW had not planned to offer the current M3 Touring in the United States, the favorable reception of the M5 Touring might influence future model introductions. Prospective buyers should consider this development when making their purchasing decisions.
