BMW 8 Series Mentioned in Gran Lusso Coupe
BMW presnted its Gran Lusso Coupe model, a mutual production with Pininfarina, at the 2013 Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance.
The 4-seater Gran Lusso Coupe may be a sleek and trndy one-off concept model, but it hints at the German brand’s possibility of resurrecting the 8 Series nameplate. According to company representatives, construction of a model based on the Gran Lusso Coupe is being considered.
Talking about concept, it was constructed on a upgraded, rear-wheel drive 7 Series base and enhanced by the 760i’s 6.0-liter V12 motor with 536 hp. As the design was the top reason for the one off, there isn’t a lot to read into with the choice of powertrain from BMW. Regardless, the German brand is mulling over a return to the high-end, luxury coupe sales, particularly with Mercedes-Benz presenting a fresh S-Class coupe and bringing in a new era of the CL-Class vehicle.
The 8 Series was actually constructed from 1989 to 1999, and though no final word has been made said about actual construction return, chances are it’ll be strongly influenced by the Gran Lusso Coupe if it receives the green light.
