A stretched i3 or a Sedan for BMW i5
BMW is finalizing the stage of deciding the shape of its 3rd “i” car.
The i5 was going to be released after the decade ends. Now it looks like an official introduction will happen earlier. The automaker’s board member of sales and marketing shared with Autocar that more i-badged offerings will come. Besides, it was told that the automaker is deciding what their 3rd “i” car will look like. There is a chance that the i3 will be stretched in order to create a mini-MPV version. Another possibility suggests a sedan taking on the coming-soon Tesla Model III.
He also revealed that we will get a notion of the vehicle’s shape in 2016 during the celebration of the brand’s centenary. Ian Robertson stated that they would look back 100 years, but into the future. We understand this in a way that the company will present some concept previewing the production variant. We do not know if the i5 will be a plug-in hybrid or/and a full EV.
The brand is also creating a hydrogen car scheduled to be marketed after 2020. It will receive an adaptation of the Toyota Mirai hardware. Expect a large sedan offering the excess of 435 miles (700 km) range.
