BMW's New M2 CS Breaks Record at Nürburgring’s Nordschleife

The recently unveiled BMW M2 CS is proving to be an impressive performance vehicle. Only a little over thirty days have passed since its introduction, and it has already secured a lap record. Notably, the CS achieved this feat more than a month prior to its official launch.

On April 11, 2025, the M2 CS established a new lap record for compact cars at Nürburgring's Nordschleife, completing the 12.94-mile track in 7 minutes and 25.5 seconds. This surpassed the former Audi RS3 record from June 2024 by eight seconds. Additionally, BMW M development engineer Jörg Weidinger broke his own previous M2 lap time from April 2023 by thirteen seconds.

Franciscus van Meel, head of BMW M, described the achievement as a “significant milestone” for the vehicle.

The latest M2 is equipped with BMW’s enhanced twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine, delivering increased performance. The CS variant generates 523 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Even with a weight of 3,770 pounds, the coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 188 mph.

Although the M2 CS does not offer a manual gearbox, this absence appears not to be deterring potential customers. BMW has reported an overwhelming demand for the model, surpassing expectations in certain regions. Consequently, the manufacturer is expanding the allocation of M2 CS units to these high-demand markets, including the United States, while maintaining its premium pricing.

Priced starting at $99,775, the M2 CS represents a significant investment for a 2 Series model. However, purchasers can take comfort in owning one of the fastest coupes on the Nordschleife, boasting an exceptional powertrain beneath the hood. This compelling combination adds to its allure.
