Mercedes-AMG to Launch an Electric SUV Boasting Over 1,000 Horsepower
- Mercedes-AMG is crafting an electric SUV equipped with more than 1,000 hp.
- A coupe-style version of the SUV is also in the pipeline.
- SUVs dominate the brand’s global sales, accounting for over half of total volume.
Mercedes-AMG continues to focus heavily on electric vehicles and SUVs, a logical move given that SUVs make up the majority of the company’s global sales.
For enthusiasts, the exciting news is that AMG is aiming to pack serious power into its upcoming electric SUV. Reports from Autocar suggest that this new EV will deliver power figures in the four-digit horsepower range.
The automaker has been spotted testing a custom-built electric SUV that will be based on the AMG.EA platform—a dedicated architecture designed specifically for high-performance AMG electric vehicles.
This new model will not be limited to a standard SUV shape; AMG plans to introduce a coupe-style variant as well, consistent with the diversity seen across Mercedes' SUV lineup.
Insiders indicate that the powertrain might resemble the setup featured in Mercedes’ GT XX Concept, including a tri-motor system, cylindrical battery cells with direct cooling, and an 800-volt electrical architecture enabling rapid charging.
Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept in Focus
The GT XX Concept delivers an astonishing 1,340 hp, setting a high benchmark. While the upcoming AMG SUV might not reach quite that level, there’s a possibility AMG’s engineers aim to make a bold statement with this project.
Official unveiling is expected around 2027, when more details will become available.
Given that SUVs are Mercedes-Benz’s top sellers, empowering AMG to develop electric performance SUVs aligns perfectly with market demands. With impressive range and power targets, these models are poised to be formidable contenders in the luxury EV segment.
Despite skepticism surrounding electric vehicles, their presence is set to grow. If there’s demand for high-powered, premium electric SUVs, Mercedes-AMG is ready to deliver.
