Fresh Arrival: GAC Yue 7 Hybrid SUV Revealed

Chinese automaker GAC has opened pre-orders in its home market for the new flagship SUV, the Yue 7. The vehicle is a plug-in hybrid that closely resembles the Japanese body-on-frame SUV Toyota Land Cruiser 300, both in appearance and dimensions. The overall length of the new Chinese model is 5045 mm, width is 2004 mm, and height is 1933 mm, with a wheelbase of 2900 mm. The vehicle's claimed ground clearance is 230 mm. The manufacturer expects to export the Yue 7 to foreign markets; however, this model has not yet been officially announced for Russia.

The main difference between the Chinese SUV and its Japanese counterpart lies in its technical specifications. The GAC Yue 7 is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 170 hp, paired with one or two electric motors. In the top-spec all-wheel-drive version, the total system output reaches an impressive 578 hp, which significantly exceeds the output of the hybrid Land Cruiser 300, rated at 457 hp. The all-wheel-drive modification of the Yue 7 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, compared to approximately 6.5 seconds for the Land Cruiser 300. At the same time, the Chinese SUV can travel up to 261 kilometers on pure electric power according to the CLTC test cycle.

The off-road capability of the new model is also substantial. The all-wheel-drive transmission equipment includes a rear differential lock, with a front differential lock available as an option. In addition, the top trim is equipped with an adaptive air suspension.

The interior is designed in a futuristic style with an emphasis on modern technology and comfort. The cabin features a central 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, massage seats, and a premium audio system with 20 speakers. The suite of electronic driver-assistance systems includes an autonomous driving system with lidar.

A significant advantage of the GAC Yue 7 is its attractive price, which starts at 180 000 yuan in the Chinese market (around 2.3 million rubles at the current exchange rate). Thus, the new model offers dimensions comparable to the Land Cruiser 300 and superior acceleration at the price of a standard crossover, although it still lags behind its Japanese rival in terms of long-established image and proven reliability.
