Alfa Romeo will transform the Giulietta into a sporty crossover for 2028

Alfa Romeo has outlined its future product roadmap, confirming that the Giulietta nameplate will make a comeback in 2028 in the form of a sporty crossover. Speaking at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, Alfa Romeo CEO Santo Ficili revealed that the Italian brand will extend the lifecycles of the current Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV through the end of 2027 while their successors are finalized. In early 2028, Alfa Romeo will launch an SUV built in Melfi, positioned between the European C and D segments. Following that launch, the successor to the Giulietta will debut in the C-segment to sit above the Junior and adopt a more premium positioning than the Tonale.

Design-wise, the production Giulietta will draw heavy inspiration from the striking Cuorerosso concept crafted by design chief Alejandro Mesonero and his team. While it will not be as low-slung as the show car, the vehicle will feature hatchback-inspired styling that sits taller than a standard sedan without reaching full SUV height. Its proportions are said to evolve the spirit of the 2003 Kamal concept, which measured 171.3 inches in length and 63.8 inches in height. This configuration aims to provide significantly more passenger and cargo room than the previous-generation Giulietta hatchback.

Underneath the bodywork, the model will utilize Stellantis’ new multi-energy architecture derived from the STLA One platform, originally announced by Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa during the company’s Investor Day in May. The adaptable platform will support internal combustion engines, hybrid powertrains with electric assist, and fully electric configurations. Dedicated Quadrifoglio performance variants are planned as well, benefiting from custom suspension, steering, and braking calibration conducted at the Balocco Proving Ground to preserve the brand’s dynamic driving character.

Inside, the Cuorerosso concept hints at the interior direction for the 2028 Giulietta. The cabin will feature a driver-oriented instrument cluster and intuitive digital interfaces, strongly celebrating Alfa Romeo's historical heritage and Italian identity. Meanwhile, the next-generation Giulia and Stelvio will remain the brand’s flagship offerings.
