2027 Honda Civic Type R Gains Retuned Suspension and Heated Seats
Honda has updated the Civic Type R for the 2027 model year, introducing a series of targeted functional and convenience enhancements to make the performance hatchback more livable while sharpening its road manners. Subtly revised styling on the front fascia is engineered specifically to improve engine cooling and reduce aerodynamic lift, prioritizing track capability over purely cosmetic alterations.
Underneath, Honda retuned the suspension damping to enhance road-following performance and reduce bounding and impact harshness, providing greater stability and a more compliant ride. The brake pedal linkage now incorporates a new spring designed to eliminate dead play and give the pedal a more direct, confidence-inspiring feel. Furthermore, the electronic rev-matching system has been recalibrated to blip the throttle faster when executing downshifts.
Inside, the cabin receives daily-driver upgrades including heated front seats—featured on a Civic Type R for the first time—an auto-dimming rearview mirror, upgraded driver-assist and safety features, and a dual-tone horn. Premium Ultrasuede material now covers the instrument panel and upper door surfaces, replacing the previous hard black plastic. The infotainment interface adds integrated Google functionality, and standard USB ports have been replaced with USB-C connections. Additional detail changes include Meteorite Gray Metallic paint, darker gray cabin accents on the shift knob and console, a retro-inspired engine cover, and updated seat perforation patterns.
The mechanical heart of the Type R remains unchanged: the turbocharged 2.0-liter K20C four-cylinder produces 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, matched exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox. Pricing increases by $1,300 to a base MSRP of $49,990. However, because standard no-cost exterior colors have been eliminated in favor of premium paint options, the true starting price for the 2027 model is $50,445.
