Sneak Preview: The 2026 Nissan Rogue Adds Plug-In Hybrid Tech and One-Pedal Driving
In Nissan's staple lineup, the Rogue continues to deliver solid value and strong tech without breaking the bank. For 2026, Nissan introduces a plug-in hybrid variant—the brand's first in the United States—aimed at delivering an experience closer to an electric car than a conventional hybrid.
Powertrain and Performance
The Rogue PHEV pairs a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine rated at 131 hp with two electric motors that drive the front and rear axles. The system combines to 248 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, with electric propulsion taking the lead. A one-pedal driving mode, e-Step, mirrors the feeling of driving an EV. The gasoline engine can engage through a single-speed clutch when needed, primarily acting as a generator to power the battery and the traction motors, which sits on a 20-kWh pack.
Charging, Range and Efficiency
Although the PHEV uses Nissan's charging port, it does not adopt the newer NACS standard and cannot DC fast-charge. Level 2 240-volt charging takes about 7.5 hours with a 3.5-kW onboard charger, while a standard 120-volt outlet requires roughly 16 hours. The total expected range is around 420 miles thanks to the hybrid setup.
Interior, Tech and Comfort
The 2026 Rogue PHEV maintains a versatile interior with a standard seven-seat layout to accommodate larger groups. The second row slides, reclines, and folds forward in a 40/20/40 split for easier access to the rear seats. A 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen handles wireless Apple CarPlay while Android Auto remains wired; a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is configurable, and a 10.0-inch head-up display keeps vital information in view. The Platinum trim adds two 120-volt outlets (rear seating and cargo area) plus a Bose nine-speaker sound system and enhanced cabin quiet in EV mode, offering up to about 38 miles of electric-only operation.
Safety, Assistance and Availability
Standard safety features include Nissan Safety Shield 360 and ProPILOT Assist 1.1, delivering steering, braking, and acceleration support without hands-free driving. An Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection provides a 360-degree view at low speeds. The non-hybrid Rogue remains in the lineup, while the SL and Platinum PHEV trims will join in early 2026. Pricing is expected to start near $40,000, with the Rogue PHEV set to be showcased at the 2025 Los Angeles Auto Show from November 21–30.
