Honda Passport's Latest Release Achieves Skyrocketing Popularity
Honda has rolled out the refreshed Passport model for the 2026 lineup, transitioning from its formerly rounded exterior to a more angular and robust design. This strategic makeover mirrors the aesthetic shift seen in its closely related three-row Pilot, and it has quickly become a hit among consumers.
By the end of September, Honda had sold 41,450 units of the Passport, marking a significant 74.8% increase from the 23,715 units sold in the first nine months of 2024. A key driver of this impressive growth is the TrailSport variant, which accounts for 80% of the total sales, highlighting the SUV's strong off-road appeal.
Sales Performance
The following comparison outlines the Passport's year-to-date sales:
- 2025: 41,450 units
- 2024: 23,715 units
- Increase: 74.8%
The TrailSport trim is available in four out of seven configurations, reinforcing the Passport's dedication to rugged performance and its appeal to enthusiasts who prefer a more muscular and boxy vehicle silhouette. Although the Passport trails behind its main competitor, the redesigned Toyota 4Runner, which sold 67,001 units by September, it's noteworthy that the 4Runner has experienced a 40% decline in sales this year.
Design and Technical Specifications
While both the Passport and the 4Runner share a similar exterior profile, they differ significantly in their technical execution. Honda has opted for a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 engine across all Passport models, eschewing hybrid options. In contrast, Toyota offers the 4Runner with turbocharged four-cylinder engines and electrified powertrains in higher trims. The interior of the 4Runner features robust switchgear, whereas the Passport boasts a streamlined and user-friendly cabin design typical of Honda vehicles.
Other Notable Models
Despite the Passport's strong sales performance, it isn't the most rapidly growing model in Honda's lineup. The Prologue EV stands out with a nearly 158% increase in sales, moving 36,553 units—a figure that surpasses the entire sales volume of the Prologue in 2024.
Overall, Honda, including its luxury division Acura, has sold close to 1.1 million vehicles by the end of September. This represents a modest growth of 3.9%, or approximately 41,000 additional vehicles, compared to the same timeframe last year.
