Exciting New Ford Bronco Electric Edition Debuts in China Only

While the United States offers the Ford Bronco with two engine choices—a 300 horsepower inline-four and a robust 418 horsepower twin-turbo V-6 found in the Raptor variant—the Chinese market is set to receive a distinct electric version of the Bronco. Additionally, the Bronco Sport in China will also feature electric powertrains, expanding Ford's electric lineup in a market saturated with EV options.

Specs and Dimensions

The newly revealed Ford Bronco New Energy, showcased on China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) portal, is a fully electric SUV that leverages BYD's advanced battery technology. This model boasts impressive dimensions, measuring 77.0 inches in width and 197.0 inches in length with a wheelbase of 116.1 inches, making it significantly larger than its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts and comparable to the three-row Kia EV9.

Performance and Range

Weighing in at 5,535 pounds for the extended-range variant and 5,800 pounds for the pure electric version, the Bronco EV is built for power and endurance. The standard electric model delivers 271 horsepower from a 105.4 kWh battery, achieving an impressive 404-mile range based on China's CLTC cycle. Meanwhile, the extended-range version combines a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid engine producing 241 horsepower with a 43.7 kWh battery, offering 137 miles of electric-only driving.

Design Features

The electric Bronco retains the classic rugged aesthetics with a boxy shape, prominent grille branding, and a rear-mounted spare tire, maintaining its off-road appeal. Notable additions include a side-swinging tailgate and a Lidar sensor mounted on the roof, enhancing both functionality and modernity.

Collaboration and Pricing

This electric iteration of the Bronco is a collaborative effort between Ford and Jiangling Motors, with sales slated to commence in China later this year. Pricing is estimated to range between ¥300,000 and ¥400,000, approximately $42,000 to $55,000 USD, depending on the final configuration and features.
