Dune Patrol: Nissan Armada Packs a Vault of Prototype Nismo Off-Road Parts
Dune Patrol Concept Shows Off a Heavily Built Armada
The latest Nissan Armada marks a major leap over the prior model, hinting at a rugged off-road foundation. Nissan is teasing that idea with the Dune Patrol concept, a pack of off-road prototype parts on display.
Under the skin, the Dune Patrol rides on a heavily modified suspension setup, including front and rear 10-inch 2.5 Bilstein M 9200 coilovers, plus upgraded upper and lower control arms, drive axles, spindles, trailing arms, tie rods, and extended brake lines. The Custom CJD Racing long-travel suspension adds up to 16 inches of articulation.
The build also features a range of prototype Nismo components, such as 18-inch bronze AXIS beadlock wheels wrapped in 37-inch Yokohama Geolander MT tires. Exterior upgrades abound, with many items we hope to see offered in a production catalog someday.
Up front and in back, the Dune Patrol wears a high-clearance bumper setup with an integrated skid plate, front recovery tow shackles, and four amber Nismo off-road lights. A rear bumper carries a spare tire carrier and an accessory mount for MaxTrac traction boards.
Other touches include rock sliders, A-pillar lights, a custom vehicle wrap, and a low-profile prototype roof rack. LED lighting is plentiful, with a 40-inch front bar, a 30-inch rear bar, and MOLLE panels for gear organization.
Nissan doesn’t mention any powertrain upgrades here, so the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 likely remains the baseline—roughly 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque—though a prototype Nismo cat-back exhaust is present. Non-prototype items like high-wall floor mats, seatback organizers, and door scuff protectors are genuine accessories.
While a desert-ready Armada may not head to production, the concept hints at turning these prototype Nismo parts into real offerings. The Dune Patrol is one of several Nissan concepts shown at SEMA this year.
