AMG's Latest 4-Door Hypercar Spotted Undergoing Alpine Trials

Following the debut of the AMG GT XX concept on Tuesday, stealthy footage has emerged showing Mercedes putting the production variant through its paces in the Alpine regions.

The forthcoming model retains much of the aesthetic introduced in the concept, featuring an all-electric, four-door supercar design with streamlined fastback lines. Although the vehicle is concealed with a sophisticated camo wrap, key elements like the prominent grille and circular taillights make a noticeable return. The headlights have been redesigned to incorporate a tri-star motif, paying homage to the Mercedes emblem.

While the captured test runs do not showcase sharp turns or rapid acceleration, observers were treated to the car’s distinctive sound profile. Contrary to typical electric vehicles, this model emits an engine-like hum from beneath the disguise—a feature highlighted by AMG executives during the concept reveal. The exact nature of the sound remains unclear, suggesting it may still be subject to refinement.

Performance-wise, expectations are high. The AMG GT XX concept boasts an impressive 1,340 horsepower generated by three axial-flux motors—two powering the rear wheels and one at the front. It utilizes an 800-volt system enabling ultra-fast charging and employs direct-cooled cylindrical battery cells to enhance thermal management.

Although the final power output for the production version may vary, it is anticipated to maintain a similar powertrain configuration upon its expected launch later this year. In terms of pricing, the AMG GT electric variant is poised to rival competitors like the Porsche Taycan, which has a starting price of $101,395.
