Mercedes Recalls GL- and GLE-Class: Passenger Airbags

Mercedes-Benz is going to make a recall for 47,799 cars of the 2016-2017 GL- and GLE-Class in America.

Airbags are the reason of the recall. Here is the list of models that fall under the recall:

  • GLE63 2016-2017
  • GLE450 2016-2017
  • GLE43 AMG 2016-2017
  • GLE350 2016-2017
  • GL550 2016-2017
  • GL350 2016-2017
  • GLS63 2017
  • GLE63S 2016
  • GLE400 2016
  • GLE350D 2016
  • GLE300D 2016
  • GLE550e 2016

The thing is that the calibration for the front passenger classification set-up may be wrong. This could lead to false detecting of a person as a child seat. If this error occurs, the safety bag will not deploy during a collision. Obviously, this will lead to injuries.

The automaker is going to contact customers this months, It will be possible to update the occupant classification set-up software in the dealerships. The automaker is unaware of any injuries so far.
