The GLC Plug-in Fuel-Cell Car from Mercedes-Benz will Arrive Next Year

Mercedes-Benz is showing its plug-in hybrid hydrogen fuel-cell GLC that will be released next year.

This model will sport a 9-kWh battery pack on the contrary to other fuel-cell offerings (such as the Honda Clarity or Toyota Mirai).

A li-ion battery offers 30 miles range and a 300-mile range fuel cell stack as the power mirrors in the Audi A7 H-tron (that is equiped with an 8.8-kWh battery).

There will be no petrol engines. However, Mercedes has noticed that there is no enough  hydrogen filling stations. The GLC owners will have a possibility to charge their cars at public charging stations in case a hydrogen station is situated far away.

We don’t know when the fuel cell car based on GLC-Class will premiere, but according to the reports, we will be able to see it at the next year’s Motor Show held in Frankfurt.

The automaker has already produced a B-Class F-Cell 7 years ago. However, the vehicle was offered just for few customers and not to general public.

The new GLC’s battery is situated at the rear part. Menwhile the fuel-cell stack which was created together with Ford can be found under the hood. You will see 2 tanks for storage pf 8.8 pounds of hydrogen. One of them will run down the centre of the car and the other one will rest under the rear seats.

The producers assures that the fuel-cell stack shrunked by 30%. 90% less platinum was used as well. In such a way it can fit.

We do not know the price at this moment. Mercedes-Benz promissed that the costs will be lower.
