New Trademark Filing for Kia Stinger Sports Vehicle

Kia is planning a small sports vehicle.

The Korean automaker filed a trademark with the USPTO (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) for “Kia Stringer”. It was listed under passenger and sport vehicles.

This name was used for the first time on the GT4 Stringer Concept. It as shown at the 2014 Autom Show held in Detroit, The model was equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor producing 315 hp (and sending it to the rear wheels). A second concept was called the Kia Novo. It previewed a small sports sedan from Kia. According to the gossips, the production offering will be 4-doored.

Last November Kia filed to protect the model in Europe. As far as we know, there were numerous opponents. Other brands claimed copyright infringement. Unlike the 1st filing, the new one leaves the GT4 moniker and lists the name as for a sports vehicle on purpose.

It is said that the automaker wants to avoid a copyright issue.

The offering will probably be produced in 2017.
