Audi Group S Rally Runs in Public
Audi moved away from the loosely production-based Sport Quattro and went to a mid-engined vehicle with a spaceframe chassis, 4-valve variant of the Quattro’s V5 engine and plastic bodywork.
The Group S category appeared in 1987. Unfortunately, there was a line of fatal crashes during ’86 connected to Group B vehicles. That is why both were shelved by the FIA.
Since that time the Audi Group S prototype has been a museum part. However, last week it could be seen running in public in Germany at the Eifel Rallye Festival.
The festival is one of the biggest events in Historic rallying. The participants date back to 1950s and 1960s.
The Audi Group S reminds of a GTP race car. It is obvious that the vehicle is absolutely priceless.
