Lexus is constructing tiny crossover

Toyota RAV4 platform will be used for hybrid-powered vehicle.

Lexus plans to introduce ready for production SUV in contrast to Audi Q3 and BMW X1 at the 2014 Geneva motor show, a company representative informed.

The hybrid car, which will be constructed on the base of the redesigned Toyota RAV4, will take place below the Lexus RX 450h.

It wasn’t clear if or when the model would come to North America. Toyota Europe rejected to give comments about future plans of the vehicle.

At the Detroit auto show in winter, Lexus chief Kazuo Ohara announced that a concept variant of the SUV would be introduced at the Tokyo motor show in November.

The small SUV will probably use the Toyota hybrid drivetrain that is placed in the Avalon vehicle, which has a four-cylinder 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor.

Auto brands are hurrying to add compact SUVs to their side because of the high demand of vehicles such as the Audi Q3 and Buick Encore.
